| Seniors' Homes & Community Housing: WHO ARE WE?
Our Organization is a management body established in 1959 as The
Wetaskiwin Peace Hills Foundation later to be renamed Seniors' Homes
& Community Housing in 1995 with the integration of existing
senior's facilities and social housing.
Today, Seniors' Homes & Community Housing provides housing
for seniors and low-income families and is responsible for the
operation of:
Peace Hills Lodge Complex, Wetaskiwin
West Pine Lodge, Winfield
John A. Smith Manor, Millet
Luther Manor, Wetaskiwin
Legion Arms, Wetaskiwin
49 family units
67 private landlord designations
Direct Rent Supplement Government Program More>>
The organization employs 88 people and provides housing for
more than 400 residents.
We are a Federal Government registered charity.
We are dedicated to the provision and management of a basic level
of affordable housing for senior citizens and low-income families.
We receive partial funding through municipal requisitions from
the County of Wetaskiwin, City of Wetaskiwin and the Town of Millet.
The Alberta Government supports the lodge program through
the lodge assistance grant which is a per resident per day subsidy,
paid directly to the management body. Our mandate is defined
in the Alberta Housing Act. Alberta is Canada's only province
with a program of this kind.
Donations and fundraising efforts provide much needed additional
funds used to assist in maintaining our operational budget.
This keeps requisitions affordable to our community's taxpayers
and resident rates at an acceptable level.
SH&CH - OUR OBJECTIVES:
To promote independent living through:
Subsidized housing for low income families
Subsidized self-contained apartments for seniors
Affordable lodge room and board for functionally independent
seniors and semi-dependent seniors
Provision of a home like environment in a lodge setting
Respect of the dignity and rights of all our citizens.
The Management body continues to seek ways of improving housing
options for the people of the County of Wetaskiwin, the City
of Wetaskiwin and the Town of Millet.
Enhancement to the types of services and ways in which they
are provided continues to be a vision of the Board of Directors.
